Mr. Ajit Nair representing ProArc Welding and Cutting Systems welcoming visitors to their Virtual booth at IMTEX 2018. He is showing the Altis Schneiden model, ProArc’s latest offering which has been integrated with XPR300 plasma system from Hypertherm, the latest plasma system developed on Industry 4.0 standard. This plasma machine has a piercing capacity of 45 mm on Mild Steel and edge cutting capacity of 80 mm on Mild Steel. The machine can cut ferrous and non-ferrous metals such as mild-steel, stainless-steel, aluminium, copper, brass and even titanium. It is a versatile machine that can cut different metals for a wide variety of thicknesses.

With a recent change in design, the machine has been made extremely rigid and robust in comparison to similar machines in the market. Dual LM guide system on the gantry facilitates precise motion of the carriage. The gantry runs on heavy-duty rails and uses helical rack & pinion system which offers better power transmission than a spur rack and pinion system. The machine has a quick-response automatic torch height controller and a magnetic breakaway type anti-collision system which protects the plasma torch in the event of a collision with any foreign object or protruding cut pieces.

This apart, the machine has a new Windows-based HMI with a touch-screen based interface needing minimal operator intervention. Being a Windows-based controller, data can be transmitted by USB, LAN or Wi-Fi. The HMI has special features like built-in standard shape library, auto-plate alignment and technology tables so that the plasma unit can communicate directly with the controller.

Plate Processing Machine:

This is an innovative machine which includes a contour bevel head in addition to a drilling spindle. In IMTEX 2012, ProArc had displayed a bevel head which was imported then. The one on the present machine has been developed indigenously, making it cost-effective and with more flexibility and features than the previous bevel head. The plasma unit, the “Smart Focus 300 system” from Kjellberg can cut up to 80 mm with 40 mm piercing capacity. The bevel cutting is operated using a 6 axes CNC controller and various bevel edge preparations can be achieved with bevel angles up to 55 degrees. The drilling head offered is a BT30 drill head with a pneumatic clamping mechanism. This head can drill up to 25 mm diameter on 50 mm thick plate. This machine is best suited for structural fabricators and pre-engineering building manufacturers whose work involves a lot of drilling and plasma cutting. It is an equally good product for process equipment manufacturers, ship-builders and wind-mill towers, manufacturers.

Precicut Machine:

The machine’s USP is its compact, modular, table-top design & the dual LM guides on the long and cross axis. The dual LM guides ensure precision of movement and quick acceleration and deceleration of motion. The machine’s positioning speed is 12 meters per minute. The machine has a down-draft fume-extraction table with the filtration unit being from Kemper of Germany. The plasma unit, “Smart-Focus 200” from Kjellberg, Germany has piercing capacity of 30mm on MS and SS and edge cutting capacity of 60 mm on MS and SS. The CNC controller, motors and drives and HMI are of Ecklemann, Germany. The modular design makes it easy to install the machine and also shift it from one site to the other. The high precision achieved on this machine makes it comparable to laser cutting in certain cases.
